Crispy Sesame Chicken Everyone Loves

Crispy fried chicken tossed in a sticky, sweet-savory sesame glaze with toasted sesame seeds and a touch of garlic. A Chinese takeout classic made fresh at home in 30 minutes.

Ingredients

lbs boneless skinless chicken thighs, cut into 1-inch cubes
½ cup cornstarch
½ cup all-purpose flour
2 large eggs, beaten
Salt and pepper
Oil for frying

For Sesame Sauce:
⅓ cup soy sauce
⅓ cup water
¼ cup brown sugar
1 tbsp rice vinegar
1 tbsp toasted sesame oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp grated ginger
1 tbsp cornstarch + 2 tbsp water (slurry)

Garnish:
1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
2 green onions, chopped

Instructions

  1. Season chicken, dip in egg, then coat in flour-cornstarch mix.
  2. Heat oil to 350°F. Fry chicken in batches 3–4 minutes until golden. Drain.
  3. In saucepan, combine all sauce ingredients except slurry. Simmer 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in cornstarch slurry. Cook until thick and glossy.
  5. Toss chicken with sauce in large bowl.
  6. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions. Serve hot.

Notes

Use chicken breast if desired. Bake or air fry for a lighter version. Serve with rice and veggies. Sauce and chicken can be prepped ahead separately.
