Tender, juicy chicken marinated in a sweet, savory Char Siu glaze, then roasted or grilled to sticky, caramelized perfection. A bold, easy twist on Chinese BBQ.

Ingredients

  • lbs boneless chicken thighs or breasts
  • 3 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp dark soy sauce (optional)
  • 2 tbsp honey or brown sugar
  • 1 tsp Chinese five spice
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • Optional: red food coloring

Instructions

  1. Whisk together all marinade ingredients.
  2. Marinate chicken for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  3. Preheat oven to 400°F or grill to medium-high.
  4. Roast or grill chicken 20–25 minutes, flipping halfway.
  5. Baste with reserved marinade and broil/grill to caramelize.
  6. Rest 5 minutes. Slice and serve hot over rice or with sides.
