Ingredients

1½ lbs boneless chicken thighs or breasts
3 tbsp hoisin sauce
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp dark soy sauce (optional)
2 tbsp honey or brown sugar
1 tsp Chinese five spice
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 tsp grated ginger
1 tsp sesame oil
Optional: red food coloring
Instructions
Whisk together all marinade ingredients.
Marinate chicken for at least 4 hours or overnight.
Preheat oven to 400°F or grill to medium-high.
Roast or grill chicken 20–25 minutes, flipping halfway.
Baste with reserved marinade and broil/grill to caramelize.
Rest 5 minutes. Slice and serve hot over rice or with sides.
